Ethiopia earned 28.4 million dollars in the last five months from electric power exports to Djibouti and Sudan.

Ethiopian Electric Power earned 28.4 million dollars in the last five months from electric power exports.

The corporation earned 61.5pc of the revenues from Djibouti and the remaining from Sudan. On average, Ethiopia exports 150MW of electricity to these two countries.

In the last fiscal year, the Corporation earned 75 million dollars from selling electricity to the same two countries.

Currently, Ethiopia is working on a transmission line that can carry up to 500Kv of electricity to Kenya. The 1.2-billion-dollar project is being funded by the African Development Bank.

Ethiopia began exporting electricity to Djibouti in 2011 and to Sudan in 2012.
